The CEO of Citroen believes that SUVs will soon become extinct

The days of SUVs are over, according to Citroen CEO Vincent Cobee in a recent interview. Surprisingly, the CEO of Peugeot forecasts a similar faith for SUVs.

Vincent Cobee's justification for his prediction is difficult to contest; aerodynamics are important for BEVs generally, and SUVs have considerable aerodynamic resistance. The CEO of Citroen notes that most contemporary electric vehicle SUVs are only somewhat taller than regular SUVs.

Citroen's CEO thinks SUVs will soon be a thing of the past

According to him, a sedan with the same aerodynamics would provide up to 80 km more autonomy than an SUV of a same size. Accordingly, he believes those "tall sedans" will continue when EVs take over, but that regular SUVs won't be practical in a market that is entirely electric.

Traditional SUVs are already heavier, and the additional drag they experience necessitates larger batteries, further amplifying the weight and price differences. And insisting on unreasonably tall, aerodynamically inefficient form factors doesn't make sense if we're going to pursue efficiency with the switch to EVs.

Although there are many ardent supporters, we doubt the classic SUV class will completely disappear. However, there will always be a market niche for it even though it will lose market share.
