Tesla Model Y Standard Range AWD Returns

After a brief vacation, the AWD Model Y's Standard Range is returned. With only 40 units initially available from stock in the US, Tesla has secretly reintroduced the model to the roster and raised the starting price to $64,000.

Elon Musk, the multitasking CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, Twitter, and a few other companies, predicted the Model Y will become the most popular vehicle in the world quite some time ago. While we wait for that to happen, it must be acknowledged that the car is selling fairly well and is undoubtedly leading the way in terms of sales of electric vehicles.

The "new" Tesla Model Y Standard Range, first reported by Twitter user The Kilowatts, has 4680 battery cells and a 269-mile range. It is priced at $63,990, which, up until last week, was approximately $2,000 less than the Long Range version with a 330-mile range.

The Model Y Long Range now has a sticker price of $52,990 thanks to Tesla's most recent round of significant price reductions; even the Performance model is now $56,990. Why would someone pay $7,000 more for a Standard Range than a Performance version?

It's challenging to analyze Tesla's unexpected move, but it's a move none the less. The company recently started a price-cutting campaign that has for the first time brought the Model Y into the range of the 2023 EV tax credit. Is it as a result of how much more expensive the new 4680 battery cells are? Or is it just an error?

Tesla has boosted the Model Y's weekly production capacity to over 1,000 units and has finally reached a level of viability for the new, structural 4680 battery cells. The corporation eventually hopes that the new cells will power all of its models, but it will be some time before we witness that.
