The future Volvo XC30 is the company's smallest all-electric SUV, and it is already in the advanced stages of testing, as seen by one of the test vehicles that astute car aficionados in China captured on camera.
Despite the manufacturer covering the car in thick camouflage, some technical details are already known. It will most likely share the same batteries and electric motors with Smart #1 and Zeekr 003 because it will be built on the same platform. That entails either a dual-motor AWD system with 428 horsepower or a rear-wheel drive with 272 horsepower.
The EX30 sports a high bonnet line and test headlights up front; these will probably be changed in the future with the newest Thor Hammer headlights. The side profile has thin pillars and power-folding side mirrors, and the A-pillars are streamlined and aerodynamic.
A stylish roof spoiler and a rear window wiper have been added to the vehicle's rear. The EX30 is around 4.2 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, and 1.6 meters tall, which puts it in the same size range as the Smart #1 and the Zeekr 003.
Moving inside, the EX30's interior was sadly mostly hidden by the camouflage. Sniper images, however, showed a sizable floating screen on the main control panel, which is positioned vertically. Like the EX90, the instrument panel is concealed below the steering wheel. The inside appears to be quite spacious despite the somewhat narrow central tube. We were also drawn to the sunroof.
The EX30's seats look to be made of the same environmentally friendly Nordico material as the EX90's seats. Pine resin and recycled plastic bottles are both used to make this substance.
It will be interesting to see the finished product and how it compares to the competition in the electric SUV market, especially since testing has already begun and an announcement date has been scheduled for this year.
